If you’re walking outside, you’ll probably see a little green mermaid on every given corner. It doesn’t take much to know that that mermaid is the logo of the famous Starbucks coffee, originating in Seattle.

Starbucks employs 182,000 individuals full time, operating in 64 countries worldwide. The coffee company was founded in 1971 and before the highest stock value was a mere $74.23. Now, Starbucks stock value is at $77.87 billion. People know that others love Starbucks, so the annual value of gift card activations is $925,000,000.

Starbuck’s revenue has only increased. In 2001, Starbucks made $2.6 billion annually, in 2005 $6.4 billion, only increasing from there: 2006, ($7.8 billion), 2010 ($10.7 billion) and 2014 ($16.4 billion).

It shouldn’t surprise you that Starbucks makes most of its cash through beverages (75% of sales). The next most popular item is food at 19%, packaged coffee at 4% and coffee making equipment at 2%. Without their known frappes, Starbucks wouldn’t be making half the amount they are now.
Accordingly with revenue, the number of Starbucks stores have exploded across the world. Once, in 1992 Starbucks had 165 stores, 146 in the U.S. Now, in 2015, Starbucks has 21,536 stores, 11,962 residing in the U.S.
Maybe next time you offer your delicious frappe, you can offer some amazing stats to the employee. We’d think they’d be impressed!
